The Twitter Account of Anonymous described Wikileaks as "the one man Julian Assange show." The disengagement between the two IT protesters and dissenters of the online world happened after Wikileaks posted the money donation guideline before users can access documents and information.
Anonymous reasoned out, "The idea behind WikiLeaks was to provide the public with information that would otherwise be kept secret by industries and governments. Information we strongly believe the public has a right to know" that making it into a venture is diverting from the real focus of the site.
"But this has been pushed more and more into the background, instead we only hear about Julian Assange, like he had dinner last night with Lady Gaga. That’s great for him but not much of our interest. We are more interested in transparent governments and bringing out documents and information they want to hide from the public."
In defense, Wikileaks explained that their donation-asking program is a way to combat the financial crisis the site is into, including high cost of court litigation that should be faced.
However, to Anonymous the reasoning of Wikileaks is a clear manifestation of its move away from the real purpose of the site.
"We have been worried about the direction WikiLeaks is going for a while," Anonymous said in a statement.
Reportedly, Anonymous was the one that provided the Stratfor emails, which gave Wikileaks "strategic intelligence on global business, economic, security and geopolitical affairs."
