"It really could be an extremely significant, historic storm," the senior research associate of the University of Miami, Brian McNoldy said. He likened Hurricane Sandy to the last Perfect Storm that ravaged the United States last 1991.
However, Dennis Feltgen, spokesman of the National Hurricane Center, explained that hurricane or storm forecasting can be tricky. The storm may weaken as it approaches the Atlantic and may not bring damage as it reaches the coast of the United States.
"Now you’ve got this giant storm complex with a lot of energy," said Feltgen who cited combined systems will produce strong winds and heavy rainfall.
As of the moment, New York City has already taken necessary preparations as they expect Hurricane Sandy to bash the metro. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he already activated a storm plan. The storm was discussed last seniors' staff meeting "just to make sure that everybody knows they should, you know, start getting out the plans, which we’ve worked on very hard."
In a warning, Feltgen said "everybody along the U.S. East Coast needs to be paying attention to this right now" but "we’re not telling people to rush to the grocery stores."
"Let’s not go overboard with this thing, but you should at least start becoming aware of it."
"Campaigns are all about control," Mark McKinnon, the former strategist of President Bush said. "So in the closing days, they fear any external events that could disrupt the game plan. Ain’t no leashes for Mother Nature."
