An employee of the German foreign intelligence service BND was arrested on suspicision of spying for the United States government, according to reports.

The alleged spy was said to have been gathering information regarding the German parliamentary committee that is investigating claims of the recent US global espionage programs. To recall, last year the US National Security Agency was accused of bugging the phone of German Chancellor Angela Merkel from the revelations of whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The said accusation of phone bugging of Germany's head executive has strained the relationship between Germany and the US; Germany has been cautious regarding the American surveillance.

This new spying accusation will further escalate the strained relationship of the two states making it hard for the US to gain German support to oppose Russian aggression in Ukraine and to control the Iranian nuclear ambitions.

Germany is taking seriously according to the spokesman of the Chancellor's office. To be noted, Germany already created a nine-strong parliamentary committee to investigate the foreign intelligence agencies in Germany.

According to reports, the 31-year old alleged spy sold information to the US contact in exchange of money.

Over the years, Germany has been cautious of espionage because of the East Germany conditions.
